702 -2006 Chevrolet HHR After the successful launch of the 9-3 Cabrio and sedan, Saab is gearing up for yet another addition to the lineup in the form of a sport wagon. A concept version of this upcoming addition was unveiled at this year's Frankfurt International Motor Show. With a shape inspired by the earlier Saab 9-3X concept, Saab further refined the idea into the 9-3 Sport-Hatch concept. Intended to blur the lines between traditional wagons and hatchbacks, the Sport-Hatch is less radical than the 9-3X, but no less appealing thanks to its swoopy exterior shape and more useful configuration. In very Saab-like fashion, the five-door "fastback" is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine which rated at 250 horsepower. Expect to see a production version of the Sport-Hatch later next year.

703 -2006 Jeep Commander Although Jeep got plenty of attention for the Rescue concept vehicle that debuted in Detroit earlier this year, no one figured anything like it would ever see a showroom floor. Recent spy photos suggest otherwise, however, as the prototypes bear the same kind of boxy, over the top styling as the concept. Built on the same platform as the new Grand Cherokee, the Commander will be slightly larger and incorporate a third row of seats. Hemi power will no doubt be part of the package along with plenty of built in off road ability.

Every air intake, opening and seam has a purpose; nothing is there for the sake of style alone. 758 -2004 Dodge Stratus With its sleek styling, the Dodge Stratus stands out in a crowded field of look-alike mid-size cars. The Stratus sedan gets a fresh look with updated styling for 2004, while the coupe was restyled just last year (model year 2003). Stratus is available at attractive prices, particularly when big cash incentives or cut-rate financing are thrown into the deal. Built on entirely different platforms, the sedan and coupe versions of the Dodge Stratus are significantly different in character. They also use different engines, but each is available with a choice of V6 or four-cylinder. The sedan shares platforms with the Chrysler Sebring sedan and is built in Michigan, while the coupe shares its basic architectural structure with the Mitsubishi Eclipse and is built in Illinois. The Stratus sedan is sporty and fun to drive when equipped with the V6, though it lacks the high levels of refinement found in the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Stratus sedans generally seem to have nicer interior trim than the Stratus coupes.

Some tall drivers may find the Regular Cab a bit short on headroom - not so much vertically (there?s more than 40 in. of that) but horizontally, where the back of our driver?s head touched the flat rear glass. The Dodge Ram?s standard cab holds the edge in roominess. Other than that, we don?t have any knocks on comfort or accommodation. The 17:1 ratio power steering communicates directly with the driver but tends to be numb and needs corrections at highway speeds. The power brakes are a hefty 11.72-in. disc, 11.03-in. drum combination, with anti-lock brakes (ABS) standard on the rear axle only, and they can take a lot of punishment. For 1995, the Ford F-Series offers a new, larger 56mm brake caliper at the front, and lini...

790 -1995 BMW 8 Series Although its 296-horsepower, 5.0-liter V12 engine came from the 750iL, the new 850i was created with a more sporty demeanor. Either a 4-speed automatic or a new 6-speed manual transmission could be installed. Standard 850i features included Automatic Stability Control (ASC), which limited power to the rear wheels when wheel slippage was detected during acceleration. Models with manual shift got a different version, ASC + T, which also applied brakes to the rear wheels to restore traction. The 850i was the first model to use BMWs new Seat-Integrated Belt system, which integrated the belt system into the seat instead of anchoring it to the floor and/or roof pillars. All 850i coupes had a drivers airbag and antilock braking. As the 1995 model year began, the 840Ci was the only model to reach dealerships, essentially unchanged. Later, only a few 840Ci and 850CSi coupes arrived for sale. The regular V12 engine for the 850Ci grew in size, to 5.4 liters and a 322-horsepower rating.
