New features for 1997 include standard driver and passenger air bags on all models up to 9500 GVWR, speed sensitive power steering and daytime running lights. New exterior paint colors include Silvermist, Madrid Red and Quicksilver. Savana was totally redesigned last year from the ground up, and has made few additional changes this year. Optional features include front and rear air conditioning, Heavy Duty Trailering Equipment and front reclining bucket seats. All models feature a 40/60 cargo side-door or a no cost optional sliding side door.

103 -2006 Honda Odyssey Redesigned in 2005, the Honda Odyssey undergoes only two minor changes for 2006: there are two additional child seat tether anchors in the third-row seats, and the EX with Leather and Touring models receive a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob. The Oydssey is available as the LX, EX with Leather, EX with Leather and RES (Rear Entertainment System), and Touring. All models use a 3.5-litre V6, but the EX models and the Touring receive Variable Cylinder Management, which deactivates the three rear cylinders for extra fuel economy. With all six cylinder firing, the V6 makes 255 hp; a drive-by-wire throttle system provides instant acceleration.

104 -1996 Ford Escort 4 Door 2- and 4-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and wagon; 5 passenger capacity. From now through 1998 therell be three versions of this sub-compact car on the market: a carry-over version of the one introduced in 1990 that will last into the summer; a larger unit based on the current Mazda Protege that will replace the current model; and, a brand new world car unit for 1998. Not surprisingly, then, the carry-over product gets upgrades as arcane as the dropping of the charge voltage by 0.2 volts to reduce heat and improve battery and small bulb life. But there are other things of note, such as a new final drive ratio on the standard engine that will improve acceleration. Theres also the availability of an integrated child seat in the back, and spark-plugs that last 160,000 kilometres. Ford of Canada will continue its Òthree-bodies, one-price philosophyÓ, which makes the wagon attractive. Only the GT gets the upscale engine.

105 -2004 Ford F150 Fords F-150 has been substantially redesigned for 2004. All new exterior styling is accompanied by model line-up, package, and powertrain changes, as well. The 4WD Regular Cabs are available in XL, STX, XLT, and FX4 trims. The standard engine has been upgraded from a 4.2L V-6 to a 4.6L V-8 (with an optional 5.4L engine available). All engines are coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The new F-150 also gets larger standard wheels and tires, all-new interior appointments, and new exterior and interior color combinations. For better payload and towing performance, a heavy duty payload package is available that increases the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating to 8200 lbs.

Forester shares its powertrain and many underskin components with Subarus Impreza subcompact car. Forester comes as the base 2.5 X, uplevel 2.5 XS, and new turbocharged 2.5 XT. All use a horizontally opposed 2.5-liter 4-cyl engine with 210 hp in the XT and 165 in the others. All offer manual or automatic transmission. 116 -2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class This larger station wagon is based on the Grand Sports Tourer Vision R concept, which was introduced in Detroit last year. The R-Class will be built in Vance, Ala. A long-wheelbase version will be produced for the U.S. market, alongside a short-wheelbase equivalent, which will be exported to Europe. Eventually, Mercedes is expected to sell the short-wheelbase version in the U.S. with its larger sibling. Annual production will fall around 50,000 units, about half of which will be intended for domestic consumption.

Roomier than the 1990 to 94 edition, the new LS 400 also had more engine power as well as fresh styling. Wheelbase was stretched by 1.4 inches, to 112.2, but overall length stayed the same as 196.7 inches. Back-seat passengers gained 2.6 inches in leg room and trunk space grew by half a cubic foot, from 14.4 to 14.9. All models use a 1.8-liter 4-cyl engine. In the CE, S, and LE it produces 130 hp and comes with 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The Cougars interior faced a few minor deletions: the drivers side map pocket, passenger side vanity mirror light and the brake pads wear sensor on the Auxiliary Warning System. The Smokers Package was replaced this year by the Non-Smokers package, which contains power outlets in place of ashtrays. The new Cougar will be adding Citrus Gold and Light Sapphire Blue to its range of exterior colors. As for the I-4, the floor console comes with an improved cupholder. The 2006 Accent will borrow its underpinnings and other internal details from the next-generation Kia Rio, although you can expect the two vehicles to look quite different on the surface. As the full model year opened, Ford added a Touring Sedan with handling/performance package and traction control.Quite a few revisions were evident, led by a revised grille and taillamps, new bumper fascias, new trunk (with wider, lower opening), and color-keyed bodyside moldings. Dashboards wore new woodgrain trim and displayed outside temperature and gallons to empty, door switches gained backlighting, and the front seat got more rearward travel.

192 -2003 BMW 325 The 2003 325 is available in several bodysyles: sedan, coupe, convertible, and wagon. The all-wheel-drive system is only available on the sedan or wagon. The 325 sedan now receives a third rear headrest and 3-point seatbelts. The front armrest is now standard in the sedan and wagon. Also new for this year, the rain sensor and automatic headlight control will now be part of the Premium Package. Other revisions include a standard moonroof on the wagon and an optional on-board computer on the sedan and wagon. The optional side impact rear air bags now include rear side airbag deactivation. A removable hardtop roof is optional on the convertible, while the power convertible soft top is available with the Premium Package.

194 -2002 Jeep Liberty Replacing the 18-year old Cherokee is a roomier new SUV with a more-sophisticated suspension and available curtain side airbags. Liberty retains unibody construction, but is about three inches longer in wheelbase and seven inches longer overall than Cherokee. Its taller, wider, and about 400 lb heavier, too. The only body is a 4-dr wagon. Its tailgate swings opens to the left and carries the outside-mounted spare tire. Libertys coil-spring suspension is independent in front and replaces Cherokees solid-axle, leaf-spring setup. Two models are offered. The Sport has contrasting-color body cladding. The Limited Edition has monochromatic exterior and brushed-metallic interior trim. Sport comes with a 150-hp 4-cyl engine. Optional on Sport and standard on Limited is a new 210-hp 3.7-liter V6. 196 -1999 Lincoln Navigator . Navigator was available either with rear-wheel drive or Fords Control Trac 4-wheel-drive system, which could be left engaged on dry pavement. Automatic self-leveling air-ride shock absorbers went at front and rear on 4x4s, but rear-only on 2WD Navigators. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes were standard either way. A 3-place, third-row bench seat was installed. A 3-place split middle bench was available at no cost, to expand seating capacity from seven to eight. Towing capacity was 8000 pounds--thats right, a hefty four tons. Sole engine was the larger of Expeditions two V8s: a 5.4-liter, rated at 230 horsepower. Navigators got a special post-assembly inspection, plus a 25-mile preshipment road test. Rivals included the GMC Yukon/Denali, Land Rover Range Rover, and Toyota Land Cruiser.

197 -1997 BMW 5 Series For 1997, the BMW 5-Series has been redesigned and re-introduced and is available in two models -- 528i and 540i. New features include a Digital Engine Management System and a direct ignition system with adaptive knock control. The 5-series now incorporates a microprocessor-controlled cooling system, and to create less unsprung weight, has added an aluminum (double-pivot strut in front and 4-link in the rear) suspension. The 5-series also includes an automatic tilt down passenger side mirror to aid in backing. Safety has been addressed with the introduction of side impact air bags and an impact sensor which unlocks all doors and turns on hazard and interior lights after a major accident.
